  • 23-year-old Harvey Castro took the title, winning $225,020 and a seat to the WPT World Championship in Las Vegas.
  • Esther Taylor, Steve Hwang, and Joshua Stewart were among the top finishers at the final table.

The World Poker Tour made its way to Texas this month for the $1,100 buy-in WPT Prime Lodge Championship, and the action didn’t disappoint.

The event that took place at The Lodge Poker Club in Austin gathered a massive field of 1,648 entries over six starting flights, which easily triggered a $1 million guarantee. By the end of Day 3, 23-year-old Harvey Castro stood above the rest.

Crazy Final Table Action

Castro captured the title, two WPT trophies, and a $225,020 payday after an intense final table that featured some well-known names, including Esther Taylor, who earlier this year finished third in the WSOP $50,000 Poker Players Championship. The win marks another major milestone for Castro, who already has several big results on his résumé.

The final day saw 17 players return for a chance to win the title, and their every move was streamed live on the WPT official YouTube channel.

Once Javier Zarco busted in 10th place, the official final table was set, and Castro held the chip lead, joined by competitors like Taylor and Nicholas Scott, both sitting on healthy stacks. Rafael Reis came in short but managed to climb the payout ladder, finishing in sixth after a series of early eliminations.

David Sollee was the first to go at the final table when his pocket queens lost to Taylor’s flopped set of threes.

Taylor later exited in fourth place for $79,000, while Steve Hwang, who earlier survived a dramatic three-way all-in after cracking Joshua Stewart’s pocket kings with pocket jacks, bowed out in third for $106,000.

That left Castro and Stewart heads-up for the title. The final hand saw Stewart’s jack-ten come up short against Castro’s pocket nines, despite picking up a straight draw on the flop. The board paired to give Harvey Castro a full house, locking up the win and his biggest moment yet on the WPT stage.

More to Come for Castro

For Castro, it’s another impressive result in a young career already filled with success. He previously won the 2023 WSOP Circuit Choctaw Main Event for $275,660 and earlier this year finished runner-up at WPT Rolling Thunder for $193,600.

Along with his prize money, he also earned a $10,400 seat to the WPT World Championship in Las Vegas later this year.

The WPT Prime Lodge stop also featured creative side events like the Wildcard Mystery Bounty Chaos, keeping things lively for players and fans alike. For poker fans who missed the action, the full final table stream is available on YouTube.
