The 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event kicked off Day 1a with drama at the tables, and one of the day’s most memorable hands came at the expense of Faraz Jaka.
The well-known poker pro and founder of Jaka Coaching found himself on the wrong end of a brutal hand Wednesday evening, busting out of the biggest tournament of the year in memorable fashion.
PokerNews’ Dan O’Hair caught the hand on video. Jaka’s exit came early in the day, during Level 4, with blinds at 300/500.

Benjamin Gold opened the action on the button, raising to 1,200 while holding Q♥ Q♣. In the big blind, Jaka decided to get creative, three-betting to 5,500 with the notorious 7♥ 2♦.
The flop brought Q♦ 3♥ 2♥, giving Gold top set and leaving Jaka in deep trouble. Still, Jaka stayed aggressive, firing 3,500 into the pot, a bet Gold called with ease. The turn came K♦, which didn’t change much for either player, but Jaka continued to press, tossing out another 14,000.
Once again, Gold just called, patiently waiting for the right moment to strike.
Then came the river: 2♠. That card gave Jaka trip deuces, just enough to convince him he might actually be ahead. He bet big, sliding 30,000 into the middle. But Gold quickly put him all in for his remaining 35,000.
Jaka, whose declared goal is to “help rec, semi-pro, & aspiring poker pros take their game to the next level” on spcial media, went deep into the tank, clearly wrestling with the decision, before finally calling off his stack, only to see the bad news.
Gold tabled his flopped set of queens, sending Jaka to the rail in what amounted to an early Fourth of July fireworks show.
Jaka Graciously Exited the Table
In true professional form, Jaka handled the cooler with grace. After collecting all his chips and personal belongings, Jaka was seen standing up, shaking hands with the remaining players at the table, and wishing them good luck before exiting the room.
Without a doubt, it was a hard blow for the 39-year-old seasoned pro who has accumulated more than $8.5 million in winnings throughout his impressive career which includes one World Poker Tour Player of the Year title for Season VIII, two WPT final tables, and six WSOP final tables.
However, the Californian’s early exit was a clear reminder that no one is truly safe one of poker’s most prestigious tournaments, and even the best are prone to fall victim to the game’s cruel twists.
