Summary:

  • A €5,300 PLO Championship hand at WSOP Europe bubble sparked tension at the table.
  • Nick “Nicky P” Palma received a walk from big stack Andreas Freund.
  • Debate followed over regarding strategy, etiquette, and the dynamics of bubble pressure.

A rare and unusual moment sparked debate at the €5,300 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship at WSOP Europe. The trigger: a decision on the stone bubble that led to visible tension at the table.

“Tensions Boiled”

The hand involved Nick “Nicky P” Palma, who was in the big blind with just a single big blind remaining. In a surprising turn, he was given a walk by small blind player Andreas Freund, who held one of the larger stacks in the tournament.

According to the official WSOP account on X, the fold came after “some table chat” with the situation escalating as other short stacks expressed frustration over the decision. The post added that “tensions boiled over as other short stacks in the tournament were not happy with the situation.”

In footage from the moment, Palma can be heard questioning the decision while speaking to other players at the table. He said “talk to him” and “I didn’t tell him my hand,” referring to his opponent in the small blind, before adding, “I had a full orbit still!

Palma Scooped Up €10,000

Despite the unusual exchange, Palma managed to survive the bubble and secured a €10,000 min-cash, finishing in 56th place. Freund, meanwhile, remained one of the chip leaders heading into the final day of the 379-entry field.

The moment quickly drew attention from the poker community, with many debating whether the fold was simply part of standard bubble strategy or an example of questionable etiquette.

Some observers suggested that Freund, as a big stack, was acting in his own interest by applying pressure in a high-stakes bubble environment, where shorter stacks are incentivized to avoid confrontation.

Others argued that folding a near-zero-cost big blind in that spot raised questions about competitive integrity, especially given how close Palma was to being eliminated.

As the tournament is ready to move into its final stages, Freund remains in a strong position to contend for the title.
